EasyCard: A Panacea of small amount expense in Taiwan

Today is an age of E-pay. Depending on one credit card, most of people can actually travel the world without their wallet. If you are still full of suspicion, then at least you can go through the whole American continent and only bring you credit card. According to my personal experience, who is a foreign visitor, I have never seen a place and have credit card imprinter all-round the mall, stores, restaurants, and coffees. Therefore, I would totally believe that the United States is the most convenient country in the world if I were not a Taiwanese.

What I meant is that I know a card which can function as well as credit care, but even better in some services. Can you image that a card can be used as a train ticket, a student Id, also a parking permit? Or can you believe that you can really live in a life without the worry of small change? next I am going to introduce this image product ”EasyCard.”

What is EasyCard?

EasyCard is a IC ticketing system applied initially in Taipei Metro System. The trait of this product is “touch-and-go,” which allows people pass the charge gate rapidly. In tradition mean, people need to insert their ticket and wait for the verification. EasyCard is adopted RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, which has a micro chip attached on the plastic card. Duo to this technology, people can pass the gate by scan the card with the sensor. It reduces the time on finding correct changes.

Each EasyCard can be deposit the credit multiple times. Since it is designed for small amount purchasing, the maximum amount of deposit is approximately 3000USD. It is separated to four different types of card. The regular card is for normal people; the student card is for people who hold a valid student ID; the handicapped card is for disable people; and the elder card is for people who are over 65 ages. Each type has its own preferential right and obligation.

Recently, in order to expand EasyCard to other usage, EasyCard Company has cooperated with different system. Now EasyCard can be applied on the bus, parking garage, and some designated stores. Also, some school combine EasyCard with student ID. If you are concerned the amount of maximum money you can sustain in EasyCard is not enough, now some banks added EasyCard into their credit card. This can be a alternative to extend the limit.

As the most prevalent plastic money in Taiwan, the circulation of EasyCard has reached 2,400 million issuances, and 390 million issued in EasyCard-Credit Card combination. With the exuberant potential, I am looking forward that EasyCard can be more useful in the future along with new exploited services.
